EVERY LIFE IS VALUABLE

Many of you know of our miscarriage in January. We knew from the beginning how valuable this young 8-week-old was and that God would be glorified through it all. We didn’t expect, however, how much of an impact this young life would have! While trying to decide what to do with our little one, there was a “small call”. To my knowledge, there was nothing in the area to celebrate unborn children in the Upstate and I thought maybe God was asking to look into this more. After praying, researching, putting aside, and praying some more, I finally got the courage to ask a local cemetery if they would be interested in having a section honoring the unborn. I was told that as long as I had some resources to show exactly what I was talking about, the idea would be considered. I got to work, but it didn’t take long before doubt started to creep in. So much work already had to be done to prepare for missions and there was no way this could work out.

Ha! God’s grace enters the scene! While attending the Upstate Catholic Women’s Belonging Conference in February, I was connected with Tiffany Matthews, author of the beautiful book, When Unborn Babies Speak. She was offering a free large granite marker for anyone who could find a place to honor the unborn. I told her not to give it away to anyone else because there just may be a place to put this! But that’s not all! As I was excitedly telling a sister about this, another woman came up to me and introduced herself as the director of the Family Life Office for the Diocese of Charleston. She expressed that she would like to see this happen and that the diocese would be behind this endeavor

The next business day, I got on the phone, called the cemetery and shared this story. It just so happened that after my first request they were working on it too! A new general manager was excited to begin the development of “Baby Land,” a specific area that would allow parents to honor babies from conception until two years old. This area would include a place for burial for parents with only a small upkeep fee. The area would also include a statue with Jesus and the little children surrounding Him, a small play area for siblings to play while parents grieve, benches that can be purchased to honor little ones, and NOW the marker! There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to begin development soon!

So many suffer from losing a baby, and now there is a special place for healing in the Upstate! The best thing is that this is open to ANYONE who has lost a baby - from conception until two years old. No matter the race, creed, economic status, planned or unplanned death - ALL are invited for healing that God so much wants to share with us! Please continue to pray for the development, advertising of the location to all who need it, and the families of all these beautiful little souls. We will let you know when the ribbon cutting will be so that you can join us as we celebrate and value EVERY life!

UPDATE:

The ribbon cutting was December 18 at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens on Hwy 9 in Boiling Springs, SC. Baby Land is NOW official! The marker is absolutely beautiful and even if you have not lost a child, this is such a sweet sight to visit! During the ceremony, we were reassured that parents will be taken care of. Now it is OUR turn to do something: tell people. The more we tell, the more healing will take place. Also, pray. Pray for those who have lost a child and for their complete healing and peace.

Dios Te Bendiga.
